the Environment)
http://globe.fsl.noaa.gov/
GLOBE is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based science and
education program.
For Students, GLOBE provides the opportunity to
learn by:
- Taking scientifically valid measurements in
the fields of atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land cover/phenology
- depending upon their local curricula
- Reporting their data through the Internet to
the student data
archive
- Creating maps
and graphs on the free interactive Web site to analyze
data sets
- Collaborating with scientists and other GLOBE students around the world
Appropriate Technology Association (ATA)
http://www.ata.or.th/ata/atawelcome.htm
In 1978 a group of lecturers and students of Faculty of Engineering,
Chulalongkorn University, including a number of professional
engineers who realized about
the important roles of appropriate technology to society, got together to establish
a study and research group. Then to disseminate the appropriate technology
under the name of the project as Appropriate Technology for local people or
Adaptive Technology Group (ATG) in order to strengthen developmental task. The
dissemination process was done in the form of training, documentary publication,
designing well drilling machine (both rotary rig and percussion types), ferrocement
tank with bamboo frame and also wind mill energy.

The Great North American Secchi Dip-In
http://dipin.kent.edu/
The Secchi Dip-In is a demonstration of the potential of volunteer monitors
to gather environmentally important information on our lakes, rivers and estuaries.
The concept of the Dip-In is simple: individuals in volunteer monitoring programs
take a transparency (usually with a Secchi Disk) measurement on one day in
a period surrounding Canada Day and July Fourth. Individuals may
be monitoring lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, rivers, or streams. These
Secchi transparency values are used to assess the transparency of volunteer-monitored
lakes in the United States and Canada.

the
geosciences.
National Association of Geoscience
Teachers (NAGT)
http://www.nagt.org/
Established in 1938, its purpose is to foster
improvement in the teaching of earth sciences at all levels of
formal and informal instruction, to emphasize the cultural significance
of the earth sciences and to disseminate knowledge in this field
to the general public. NAGT is organized into 11 sections, encompassing
the United States and Canada. NAGT organizes the technical program
in geoscience education at every GSA Annual Meeting, and in this
context also sponsors numerous technical sessions, workshops,
and field trips. The organization also fosters advances in the
teaching and learning of geoscience by means of scholarship aid
to summer field-camp students, professional workshops for geoscience
faculty, its Distinguished Speaker Series, and the Journal of
Geoscience Education and through its partnership with the National
Association for Black Geologists and Geophysicists.
